    Hi All,
I've been shopping for a Mav recently, found a nice looking one about 6 hours drive from me. Hoping I can get some advice on it from the experts here, just based on the description and the photos. It seems like a decent restoration and a lot of Mav for the $9995 asking price. I see a little orange peel on the front of the hood, but can't find much to complain about based on the photos. It is at a dealer, they say it came without any records. I realize it could have cancer, so if any one of you is in Chicago, I would be willing to cover your time to inspect it for me.

    Photo album:
    http://s653.beta.photobucket.com/user/ChampionMotorsports/library/1970 Maverick Grabber-P1614

Derscription: "Thank you for viewing my 1970 Ford Maverick "Grabber". This car has a built 302ci motor with Performer Aluminum Heads, C6 Automatic Transmission, Ford 9" Rear End, Mallory Ignition, Holley Carb, Pro Comp Autometer Gauges, B&N Shifter, Lakewood Traction Bars, Front Bucket Seats, Rear Bench Seat, Pioneer am/Fm CD Changer, American Racing Aluminum Wheels with BF Goodrich P215/60/15 Front Tires and P275/50/15 Rear Tires with 90% tread life remaining. Frame, Floor Pans and Trunk Pan are all very solid."

    Thanks for any advice!
    Mark

The stripes are totally screwed up on that car. They look like crap, and for 10-grand, they should be right.

They left the "nub" for the column shifter on the column. That's pretty half-assed.

    The dash-pad is not great.

The Torino taillights don't fit right.

    I wouldn't pay a dime over $6500 for it.

    I like the wheels.

LOL! I bet I would get some cr*p about those stripes at a car show! Look in the link to the photo album, the interior looks really clean and the engine bay as well. But, I'm not familiar with these cars yet, so I do appreciate any advice.

Unfamiliar can lead to mistakes, so you have at least realized you need some pointers.

As stated, the stripes are WAY wrong.

In my opinion, a $10,000 Maverick should not have seat covers on the front seats.

If you have $10,000 to spend, you can get yourself a really, really nice Maverick/Comet. You just need to look around.

Also, do you want a Maverick with that much motor? In my opinion, that is way too much motor for a novice.

You need to decide what YOU really want, and find that car. It is out there, and the search can be the most fun. Welcome aboard.

Yes take your time. I over payed for mine. While I am happy with it now, a extra thousand or so to start with would have been nice. Read the past board post, learn and take your time.

Over spray on the door...missing rubber bumper on the door. Looks like a fast paint for a fast sell. I see maybe $5000 tops

Good points, it is not looking so great afterall.

If you know any past or current links pointing to really nicely finished V8 examples, under $10k, please post a link. That way I can have something to set my bar to while I search. Big plus for manual trans cars.

There was this car (they since took the photo down, it was blue) on this board two years ago, that I really liked, but I was not the financial position to purchase at the time:
    http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=62167

And yes, I am looking for about the same or better power than my current car - 350hp and 380 trq in a fairly heavy 3800lb AMG. I have liked Mav's and Comets for a long time, since they are what I consider the perfect weight and price point in a car that you can fix everything yourself, and if bought right and cared for will hold its value..

I guess it all depends on what you want, and what you can do. Could you build a car like that for 10 grand, maybe, could you pay someone to build you a car like that for 10 grand, probably not.
You'd have to have a real good long look at it....

That car has bn here for awhile. I live close to it. I hve wanted to look at it. The weather has not been favorable for me to be closely scrutnizing cars. When I go that way, it's either cold, snowing raining or all of the above. I don't think the car shud have seat covers either for the price. Also, by the guy being a used car dealer he won't bend much if any on the price. Im assuming he will hold out until the weather improves and see how much intrest the car generates. If the weather improves soon I will look at it.

Frm what I can see after lookin at all the pix ... I agree. If ur not in the automotive trades, collect a lot of parts over some years; most cud not build a car like this for 10K. I have lot more in my car and still need a paint job. Ten G's sounds like a lot but in the car hobby - it ain't. A lot of folks have more than that in their engine..

Wow, that's where you and i differ....I always hated those...Reminds me of the late 80's-early 90's....Compared to today's offerings they have no character at all...Worst part of the car imo....

I have been trying to sell mine for about a year now.
Trying to get $12,000. But my car is a lot different then that one in the link.
Just remember unless it has just had a total restore, there will be problems as all cars do as they age.
And as mojo said, $10,000 is chicken feed sometimes while restoring these cars.
I have over $18,000 spent in the Maverick.
The Chevelle SS I own I have dumped over $40,000 and it still needs work!
If you are interested I will make you a deal with my Maverick.

I think that rather than ask if a Maverick can be built for 10K, one should look at the quality of the work. I'm not paying 10K for something that's as half-assed as that Maverick. Judging by what I can readily see from the pics, I have to wonder about what I can't see that could give me some serious buyer's remorse. That paint-job is NOT good ('looks like a Maaco job), and other "corners" were cut.

    I see a $5000-$6500 car MAX.

I have been to Champion, they are high priced and the cars under 50,000 look much better in a pic than in person.

A well respected forum member has offered me his car for about 10 grand, and has really set the bar high as to how much Mav that money will buy. I was coming from the market for 1970 AMC AMX and Olds 442's, ten grand won't get you anything good there.
