so its been 3 weeks 5 days since i filled up with gas and its my daily driver is that good mpg or can you get more
I can get 20 mpg on my car if I keep my foot out of it and drive it like a granny. Or, I can get 1 gallon per mile if I take it to the track and stomp on it. Before I even tuned my new 750 double pumper, I drove 60 miles to a car show on a full tank and it still said FULL when I got there. Was down to 3/4 on the way back, but I passed a couple guys and showed off a little on the way home.
I was averaging 17/18mpg this time last year when I was fresh with my new carb, new ignition set-up. Now a year later I'm down to 14, but I think when I get the tune-up done I'll be back up to 17/18, but I might need to get my exhaust fixed to get past 16. If you've got an Android device I strongly recommend the FuelLog app. It's simple and great for tracking your mileage. Pretty handy for keeping an eye on efficiency. And that's all driving it like I stole it.
Last year? Probably not. I drove it much more the couple of years before. I hope to drive it more when I get it all back together with decent suspension and power steering. If I ever get A/C installed, it will be a semi-daily-driver. At least 1-2 days per week.
Ive never went three weeks in anything I owned without putting gas in. even in my 95 corrolla wasnt that good on gas. it ran great and was alot cheaper than my truck but a 10 gallon tank would last about 250 miles. that would be every week if not every three or four days depending on who drove it. then again my wife used to do 90 mph on the way to work EVERY DAY so that cut our gas mileage down and when I got it I drove it like a race car (peddle to the metal to every stop light lol) heck the car wouldnt shift out of first gear until 40! then it would kick like it had a v8 lol I would be glad to have your gas mileage. I would say leave it alone
that comes out to...520-650...miles to a tank of gas... you would burn more gas cranking and warming it up than the 20 miles you drove it. also with that short distance and time running, you may want to change the oil every other tank of gas.... what motor/transmission do you have in your car?
It cost me about $40 bucks to drive my mav on the weekends... I can watch my fuel gage dropping.... It has always been a gas hog... I'm going to look into one of those app's...
I only drive 5 miles round trip for my job. In my 79 T-Bird, even at 12mpg, my tank of gas lasts for 8 weeks! My 76 Mav in Grand Prairie TX only gets driven every three months, so that's how long it's gas lasts.
Yeah I want to duplicate those for my Comet, my 302/C4 may get half of that distance and it has a 19 gal tank... BTW using more gas starting and warming than a 20mi trip is a major stretch... Even with the choke partially on, running with no load doesn't use a tremendous amount of gas... If it does, there is a carb(choke) prob for sure...
I get 9-11 miles per gallon on average in my mav 302/c4.. I have a performer 289 edelbrock intake and a 600cm edelbrock carb
I think I understand what you mean by the "average" part of that sentence and I'm not just speaking to you specifically.. but I seriously can't figure out why many of you guys can't get decent mileage from such little motors in these light little cars. I believe much of what's being left on the table for some of you is in the fine tuning.. and proper spark curves certainly shouldn't be underestimated. I'd start by getting yourselves an adjustable vac advance pot and maxing it out to see where it takes you for light throttle/cruising mileage and tighten it up from there. Sometimes.. the vac improvements will surprise you.. and are directly related to efficiency and mileage gains. All I do know for sure is that if my finished product 302(360-370 horse) doesn't even come close to touching 15 mpg with moderate gearing(3.50'ish final)?.. I'll just keep tuning until it does.
