Oh, wait, let me backtrack on my previous statement. This balancer he is looking at is SFI-18.1 and good for 18,000 rpm. Maybe he needs that for his stock 302... Just kidding. I too, have gotten hung up on trying to buy the best part for my car, and spent way too much on way too much part. The Professional Products balancers are not SFI approved, so are not good for 12,000 rpms. But Car Craft chooses them for their buildups.
I did not know what sfi meant that why i was asking for input on it haha so 12,000 i know i will never see so im gonna look more into the professional products one right now...
We have run the Professional Products (we got them at Speedway Motors) for the last 5 years without a single problem. We turned our engines 7800 to 8200 RPM in dirt track modifieds. I will keep usng them, best piece for the money in my opinion. We did not use the SFI rated balancers, we used the cheapo. They have all 3 sets of timing marks engraved on them. Put your engine at TDC, pull the old balancer and see how your marks line up. They also make the pulley spacers you will need for different years and Speedway used to have the chart showing all the years and what spacer was needed. Check their web site. I ran Ford Motorsports solid balancers on our dirt late model engines. We turned them from 8200 to 9400 and never had a probelm with them. Considerably more $$$ than a Pro Products. Many dirt track engine builders will not use a fluid dampner. A dent in the outer ring can keep the fluid from working properly. Some use the "elastic band" style balancer. Either one will cost yoy around 4 times the Pro Products piece. Not worth it in my eyes. For a street engine, the Pro Products should be fine. The 351 uses the 28oz balancers. Doesn't matter if it's a 351C or W, the same Pro roducts balancer fits both, the timing marks are there for either. SPark
I've been running a PP balancer for years. On a 302, two 347s, and a 5.0. Just changed the bolt-in weight and spacer when needed. When I first got it I had it and a stock Ford balancer side-by-side on my bench. According to the balancer blueprint I had found somewhere the PP part was machined more accurrately than the Ford part.
One keyway. The balance weight doesn't change in relation to the crank, Ford just used different pointer locations depending on the year/application of the motor.
Thanks for shedding more light on the pro product balancer, looks like ill be going with that one and give yall input on how i like it
Here are the spacers at the bottom of this page... http://summitracing.com/parts/pfs-80007/recommendedparts and the chart is here...
