There's more contact area on shoes and drums than pads and rotors. But let things start heating up and the rotors will cool faster than drums
Exactly. Discs only out shine drums when things get hot. Just FYI for all you out there, there were some drum brake 9's to be found under the Granadas and the Monarchs too. I saw one such under a 4dr 1980 Granada a few years ago.
And it has been noted in the past that there is no pattern of when a 9 inch was installed in Granada/Monarchs - 6 cylinder - 8 cylinder - 2 door - 4 door didn't matter - you got to look under every one of them
