had chevrolets all my life.bought a ford maverick with 250 6cyl (good on gas and my wallet) for my son.it has a carter RBS carb on it.put new wires,plugs,points....ect.rebuilt carb. but cant get it to idle.checked all vacume lines and every thing i can think of but still no idle.if i barely crack the throttle it misses anything above that it runs smooth.as soon as i let it go it stalls.am i missing something about these cars?

    Welcome to the board!

I would start at 1) who rebuilt the carb? Might be better off with a new one. That thing was 40 years old before it was "rebuilt".

    2) vacuum leak, somewhere.

Sorry to offend, but my first gut feeling is "some guy" rebuilt the carb before you got it.

That is almost always a bad thing.

check your fuel filter? I had a truck that would run great with my foot on the gas but as soon as I let off it would die. checked everything over and over again EXCEPT the fuel filter.
my filter was bone dry when you let off the gas and when you revved the engine a little you could just barely see a trickle go through the filter. (guess thats why I got such good gas mileage from a 390) changed the filter and it ran great all the time. used a little more gas but would stay running lol

I've seen various carbs over the years with this condition, almost always due to a idle passage blocked with dirt or corrosion... You'll need to pull it apart again and be absoultly certain those passages are open...

    BTW Welcome...

Welcome to the site, make sure the butterfly shaft is tight, even a small amount of play will cause your problem.
