Just got this magnetic cowl cover to keep water out of my leaking cowl when I wash the car. Anyone try one of these? Does it really work?

I haven't tried that one, but it doesn't cover the wiper base so I'm going to say it would still leak! I put a folded towel on the floor and slide it up under the brake pedal when I wash mine. It takes a half mile or so before the drips stop, but this is the easiest way I've found to keep the floor dry. Mine only leaks on the drivers side so it's no biggie to me! After a short ride I'll set the towel in the back seat and take it out to dry it when I get back home. :)

I've got one on mine. Really happy with it. I mean it rains almost a 1/3rd of the year here. It will get really stuffy and fog up the window due to the restricted fresh air flow, but if I just crack one of the rear windows it's not an issue.

I should say that ever since I put it on, my carpets have stayed dry. I have noticed barely any leakage from around the wiper base, but I also forced a tighter sealing gasket around them.

Im not going to drive with it on the car, so thats a non issue. Its garage kept and I dont drive it if its raining. I have got caught in storms while on the road though. It leaks a little on the passenger side and runs down the firewall on the driver side. Made my fuse box rusty. Sounds like it will be worth the 19 bucks.

I couldn't imagine owning a car and not driving it in the rain. I can recall when I was younger and never checked the weather being out on a sunny cloudless day in the middle of the summer, falling asleep in the grass. Then waking up to a cold rain, looking up, and it still being a sunny cloudless day.

I keep my car under roof too! I do think that the cover is worth $19 and if not water, it will definitely keep tree crap out of the cowl when you park at some events. I do the towel held on with magnets for those times I have to park under trees. The only thing I'd be concerned with using the cover is that it won't scratch the paint. :)

It won't scratch the paint. It's a very flimsy type of magnet commonly used for creating printed refigerator magnets. Like the kind Rock Auto sends out. These things are designed to be barely magnetized and soft so that they can go through industrial printers without sticking and jamming, and go through guillotine style cutters with minimal blade wear.

The only scenario I would see scratching the paint with it would be if you didn't keep your nails trimmed well enough and were taking it on and off roughly.

I found it on ebay. Was an impulse buy, was just looking at random car stuff.

I have one and it works great. No water gets in (I tested with water from the hose). I bought it just to make sure my cowls don't get leaves or pine needles accumulating in there when parked outside.

My cowls are not rusty, and as a result do not leak. I also do not drive my car in the rain or park outside very often so I guess I haven't really "battle tested" it.

About a year ago I talked to the guy that makes them and he said they are not meant to be left on the car while driving or left on for long periods of time. Basically, just while it is being washed or short periods of rain but not for weeks or months at a time.

Ok, I understand. It's the same material as the magnetic signs folks use on their vehicles. (y)
