Im thinking about buying a rebuilt t-5 with new clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel. I have a 72 grabber with a 302 and C-4 right now. How long would it realistically take 2 guys, with car up on jack stands, in the driveway to do this from start to finish. Neither one of us has done this before. I need to get this started and finished in the week my wife will be away with my mom. Is that a realistic goal?

yes but you better have all your ducks in a row.its not the time to take it out and put the new one back in,its havving EVERYTHING you need to do it with. i'd get a list from here with EVERYTHING you need to do it with.and plan on spending a grand or so on extras besides the tranny and clutch.(minumim) not cheap but ALOT funner and if you drive it everyday you'll make uo some of the money in better gas mileage.(least thats what i tell myself lol) good luck!:thumbs2:

In a perfect world, a manual to manual swap could be done in an afternoon. An auto to manual swap will have unforeseen problems, no matter how much you plan ahead. A week should be plenty of time, providing you're not "waiting on parts", which seems to be the bane of all things automotive in nature. Your location shows you shouldn't have any problem getting most of the small bits and pieces that are missing or have been overlooked in planning...

If you have the clutch pedal all setup and ready to go.

Me and a friend did the swap in about 4 hours on a lift.

buy 71 gold's (frank) cross member. and have your stuff ready to go.

I used my c4 transmission mount, and stock 6 cyl 70 driveshaft. My headers and duals cleared the trans. If you go hydraulic plan a extra day of crawling under bleeding and adjusting stuff. I still do not have mine adjusted quite right but its close enough.

Me and a completely non mechanically inclined friend managed it on a drive on lift in evening.

Careful buying used and rebuilt transmissions. Places near me wanted 1000$ for a rebuilt one without a core, I bought a used one for 400$ and it grenade in the first shift into second at light throttle. Got my money back (luckily) bought a T-5Z 1695$ to my door! Havent looked back.

    mrp has it right.
install the pedal and mastercylinder first before you take out the c4. you dont have to do anything that would disable the car when you do this. once you get that done, then you should be able to do the rest of the swap easily.

Thanks for all the input. I still have a month to think about this and research it some more. Just want to be prepared for any roadblocks I may come across.
