Its dark so pictures will have to wait. I found this 1975 4-door Comet on craigslist as a parts car for $475 and thought i might learn a bit in the dis-assembly process, selling parts as i went. After a bit of research I bought it, towed it home and gave it a good looking over. despite sun rotted seats and dash and a few missing items (brake control valve, ignition tumbler, key, a few vacuum lines)it seemed to be factory original and free of rust. Gentle use of a screwdriver in the column got it started easily. The 250 inline (mated to a c4 column shift) idled smoothly (slight exhaust tick) and all the electrical systems seemed operational as well as the power steering. At some point in all this the incomplete brake system, severed vacuum lines etc. seemed unworthy reasons to part out a great piece of Americana, so I'm not. Instead i intend to get her back on the road where (i feel) she belongs. Sentiment aside i want to adhere as closely to the stock design as possible and pursue reliability over performance. My questions and pictures will inevitably follow.
from Wisconsin. Yes, pictures are always welcome here ............ It is not hard to swap in an ignition switch so you have a key. You can buy a set from any Mustang supplier or AK - and then you get the matching door locks too.
Your story isnt far from mine... I got my 72 4 door for 350 and it was to be a temporary thing... And I fell in love with "Brownie" and restored her..mostly stock, disc brakes and suspension upgrades, updates.. They are great cars. I will never sell her.
