Ok maverick mechanics..I recently got my paws on a 1994 mustang roller motor. I used my old front cover so I could add a mechanical fuel pump. Bought a new water pump for it and began putting it all back together. .after some nice blue ford paint. Anyway the water pump is way too long. If I use the roller front cover no mech fuel pump..what has everyone else done to fix the prob..all comments are appreciated. Thanks..appears I cant load photos from my phone ..after today thats about right
I'm assuming you had a v8 before swapping to a 5.0? Everything should line up, what year water pump did you get?
It was from an 89 mustang..the 95 was a small pump and would not fit the front cover with the fuel pump cuttout..also tried the old waterpump from the enginevthat came out.. I have picts on my phone but it wont let me post them
I dunno exactly what you are asking but a 5.0 Mustang pump is reverse rotation so unless you're using the matching serpentine pulley setup it can't be used... The bolt pattern is different for the fan/spacer/pulley as well, basically you need a pump for a '70s 302...
The 70s style waterpump is the other pump I tried..it still sticks out to far..so what year of pulleys do I use when im using a front cover that allows for the mechanical pump..im about to pull what little hair I have left out..um trying to upload some photos now so hopefully u can see what im working with
I guess what im asking is what pulleys should I use if I am using a 95 roller mustang engine with a timing cover for a mechanical pump. What water pump year. If u were starting from scratch what would u use to get it togeather and see if or how it runs
Everything you orig used should be fine with the exception the harmonic balancer thickness may be different... I know spacers are sold to allow usage of different year pulleys but can't remember details... BTW you do know balance is different??? The 5.0 balancer and flywheel must be used, not the orig... If the flexplate/flywheel on the 5.0 won't fit your orig pieces you'll need a replacement... The 50oz 157 tooth C4 flexplate is a custom piece that you'll need to get from Summit, Jegs, etc....
Just what is the issue??? We really need more details to know exactly what the problem is... Are the alt, W/P pulleys etc too far forward to line up with the crank pulley???
Waterpump neck is sticking out too far and the pulley wont even come close to lining up. It about 2" away from lining up with the crankshaft pulley
I ran into this same problem when I changed to a high flow water pump from edelbrock the neck was alot longer and the bottom pulley wouldnt line up with the top one. I had to go through a trial and error process with different water pump pulleys from old mustangs. you have to go to the junk yard and take your pulley with you and figure out how much further you need it to set back over the water pump neck. the right pulley will have a deep bell shape I dont remember what mine came off of and since its powder coated I cant give you any numbers that may or may not be there sorry.
If you'd said 1" I'd say this is what you want, but really with just a spacer and all the original pieces it should line up.... http://www.levittownfordsupercenter.com/ford-racing-crankshaft-pulley-spacer-5058-p-1489.html
maybe that and a different top pulley thats easy to find/order at any mustang shop would solve the problem
