G'day all. I've jumped onboard. These Mavericks/Comets interest me. I've got a 66 Mustang in the garage and I am thinking of doing a trip to the US in a year or so. I plan to buy a car just prior to arrival and use it on the road trip. If it's OK, I'll ship it back to Oz and use it as a daily driver. So what I'd be looking for is an in-line 6 (maybe a 302), PS, C4, PB and air. Two door or four door, no matter BUT absolutely no RUST and absolutely no MODS, up to 1973 as those huge bumper bars look weird when you're not used to them, although you can retrofit on newer models (?). What are my chances? Have I spec'd too hard? Thanks Greg Australia
Welcome from Northern California! Shouldn't be too hard to find one. What part of the U.S. will you be visiting?
Power Brakes came out in 76, and those are the big bumpered cars....you'll find what you want, they are out there. Just take your time, and check the car out , or even have one of us, check it out before you buy....good luck! And Welcome from the Great White North!!
Welcome Greg, You should be able to find exactly what you are looking for. The U.S. Maverick would be just the car to add to your collection. Let us know when and where you plan to be and I am sure there will be plenty willing to help. Check out Craigslist for your specific areas and you will be able to get a good idea of what is available. Buy from a southwestern state (southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas etc.) and you should be able to buy a non-rust car. On your travels pick up interior pieces that will need replacement from the desert heat.
Thanks for the welcome. I'm watching this site closely. Hope to do a road trip to include California, Nevada, Arizona in around Sep or Oct next year.
Welcome Greg, I'm sure there's plenty of people on this site willing to help you out, they seem to have a wealth of knowledge. If you find the right car, I'd almost bet you'll love it more than the mustang! FYI the planned series 2 maverick is what we got as an xa falcon. Good luck in your hunt mate.
Hey Greg, Did you notice this post? http://www.maverick.to/mmb/showthread.php?t=95084 For comparables - what do you think of that one? The big surf board bumpers can be replaced with the earlier small ones.
