My engine is shot and needs to be replaced. I wanted to get a Jasper reman engine, but they don't stock cores anymore for the 250 il. They will, however, take my entire engine and reman that for $2,250, providing your core is good. If not, they'll add an extra $1,200. Sooo, I don't have that much cash. Any suggestions on a company to get a good reman from? Before you ask, I don't have the time or money to convert to a 302, it's not in the cards. I just want to swap out for a reman and be done with it. Please help

I'm sure i can find high mile used 200 or 250 motors around here but I really want to start with a clean slate.

Jasper and Recon are the ones that immediately come to mind.

'Sucks you're so short on time, because the right way to do it would be to have it rebuilt by a local machine shop, and of course a better way to do it would be the V-8 swap (but we already know that's not on the list of options right now).

BINGO and WAY cheaper prolly only cost you the $1200 it would cost you JUST for a core. then when you go to build a v8 youll have a working relationship with them(y)

all theyre going to do is the exact same thing a machine shop is going to do. either hone it or bore it ever so slightly and assemble it with all new parts or with just rings if your parts are in good shape depending on what they recommend. its not like either of those other two companies are going to take a solid block of iron and machine you a new block out of it. so save yourself some money and go to a reputable machine shop and have them rebuild it for you.

DO NOT TAKE IT TO A REPAIR SHOP GO TO A MACHINE SHOP. a repair shop will rape you just for taking it to the machine shop for you.

Knowing your situation as far as use and budget I would suggest:

    1. Getting another car

    2. Finding a used 6 cyl motor and install that. I would think you could find a good running 6 cyl for around $200.

I see take outs on CL all the time for $200 or less. I got one that was still in a running car so I could check it out first.
