Ok I need to get a tag for my 74' / 250 and need to get insurance. I have been with State Farm for years with my other cars and they quoted me about $40 bucks per month. (clean record etc. no issues there) but this seemed a little high. Maybe I'm just cheap but was curious if this sounds reasonable to you guys? Any advice or thoughts? I'm told I must have Liability and uninsured motorist to get a tag in Georgia. Thanks Jon
I'm with Grange Mutual and I pay about $139 every six months to have my '73 Mav on my plan, with all my other cars. I carry the maximum liability limits and I can drive my Mav whenever, wherever, however, and no milage limits. If I wasn't in metro Atlanta, the rates would be cheaper. Lots of thefts and accidents in Hotlanta.
Is this a dailey driver? If it is just for occasional use such as car shows etc. you may be able to get that type insurance. My 73 4dr 250, is licensed in Arkansas as an antique and driven less than 2000 mi a year. Costs 39.00 a year for liability and uninsured. Look into that and later if you decide to drive it more often etc, you can change the policy. Don't know if it depends on your age on the quote, but multiple cars with the same company should help.
hey $40 a month sounds cheap to me. i'm 19 and i pay $110 a month for my insurance. it was $140 but after 6 months of that, and me not getting any tickets. it went down.
terry, terry, terry, "I can drive my Mav whenever, wherever, however, and no milage limits." ...frank...
I have J.C.Taylor antique insurance on 5 cars less than $300. a year and hoping i never have to find out if it's good or not.
I just sent my premium in to Grundy Ins. They quoted me $170 for a year, which is for $10,000 of coverage but it can't be a daily driver...and I can't tell them it mind wind up on the drag strip every now and then. If your Mav is not a daily driver, it's hard to beat the price. I checked with all the other classic car ins companies and Grundy had the best price.
My 66 F-100, and 76 F-100 are both registered as antiques. I pay 15 a month, for either one of them... So 180 a year isnt bad at all.
thanks guys. I applied to Haggerty last week and was turned down because of my wife's "27 miles over" (72 in a 45) speeding ticket in 2003. We live in Atlanta that's just keeping up with traffic around here! We also have a MINI Cooper and the thing is just too damn hard to drive slow. Anyway Haggerty was only $90 for a year with 5K in coverage. I'm trying again, and leaving my wife off the application. I'll try Grundy ansd JC Taylor Thanks. Jon
Does Grundy or Haggerty require it to be in a garage? I also have State Farm and ever since they lost a huge law suit (due to not fully compensating for a damaged car's resale value), They have been steadily raising their rates more than other companies. Just make sure you stay with a premium company and not one of the smaller sup-standard companies. They quote a smaller payment but skyrocket their rate as soon as they got your business and it's hard to get back with a better company.
They both ask you if it's kept in a garage and what the garage is built out of. I'm not positive but I think if you told them no garage they would probably not insure your car.
