Ok guys i havent posted in a while but lately for a bout a month or 2 now i've been having this problem with my 72 stock 302 Comet. Whenever i accelerate or have it in park and give it gas it has trouble accelerating around 1200-2000 rpms, ONLY between there, the engine shakes and starts to die down a little and some times i think the carb is like popping, but after i pass 2000 rpms the engine runs fine, any ideas? Its really starting to frustrate me cause idk what it could be anything would help, thanks!
Sounds like a accelerator pump of possible blown power valve issue..... But more likely the accelerator pump.....
my auto teacher said it might be some gaskets but im not sure, and for the choke plate its not sticking from what i can see :l
With the choke open and engine off, open the throttle and look down in the carb for a stream of gas shooting into each of the barrels(it'll only squirt out while the throttle is opening)... No squirt and it's going to be lazy/hesitant as the carb transitions from idle circuit to power...
This worked great on mine. Take out both idle air mixture screws and give the holes a good shot with an air hose! Put the screws back in, lightly seat them, and back out 2 turns. This setting will be in the ballpark! See if this helps. What this does is to clear the idle and midrange section of the carb. It may be as simple as some crud blocking an internal port. With this crap gas we have today it's quite common. If this solved your problem, give your mixture screws a fine adjustment when the engine is fully warmed up.
