Were shoulder straps standard equiptment or optional in a 74 Mav? Mine has only lap belts.

My 74 has shoulder belts. I think it was mandatory in 74 or 73

    Yep.

Do you have a large hex bolt screwed into the roof, above the driver/passenger's heads?

The best way to do so is to NOT put them in.

    That's right.

I thought the same way you did. Put in the OE equipment so I don't get in trouble. Well, I put them in then realized how much a PIA they are to use, so I stopped using them. Been pulled over about three times since then. Two cops gave me a warning after seeing I had the lap belt on, and advised me to take the shoulder belts out. The 3rd cop gave me a ticket and said it would be illegal to remove them, and that he would notice if he saw me again. Ha! :hmmm:

95% Of LEOs aren't going to know otherwise if you tell them your car didn't come with shoulder belts, so I wouldn't worry about it.

After pricing new ones (WOW), I think I'll remove the posts in the roof and use the lap belts. After all it's only $25 a pop and I personally believe it's unconstitutional for our government to fine us for not protecting ourselves..............( what are those flashing lights out front )?:naughty:
