im trying to figure out if my maverick has an aftermarket ring and pinion gears.

    speedo says 50mph
    and im cruzing at 2500rpm
    i have 26in tires

that seems a little high for me to have the stock 3.00 gears. BUT im new to this so i can be wrong. anybody have some info? im guessing the speedo is lying to me a little bit and im probably going a couple miles a hour faster because i have 26inchers.

If you have an automatic.....I assume..............and your speedo is correct (which is not likely if the rear end gears have been changed) and you are cruising at 50mph with 26" tall tires and doing 2500rpm you have at least 3.73's or 3;89's........or somewhere in between.
Jack up the rear of the car, put the trans in neutral.....put a mark on the rear tire and turn the tire one complete turn (360 degrees) and count the number of times the universal goes around, that is the quickest way to make a guess................which may be better than your speedometer.

Looks good, just a little rust repair................
If you were actually doing 58 it could be between 3.25's and 3.5's.......but you need to do the U joint count to know.

Someone might of changed the speedometer gear. Sounds like you're one or two teeth off.
