Hey guys :/ just got off work an hour ago and the Mav said hello to a 4 point going about 30 around a hair pin. Front right headlight is gone along with the headlight housing the socket part of the fender is toast and the bumper is mangled. Theres a 74 in our local junk yard. If I pull the headlight mount right fender will they both match the body? And where/how can I track down a chrome replacement bumper (shes a 72 so I need the 70-72 bumper)
And anybody know if fiberglass front bumpers are worth it? I feel they may be cheep weak and will shrink or wont fit. I could be completely wrong
I have a fender and bumper. Both need some work but are very usable. I'll put up some pictures in a little bit.
The 73 and up fenders are different where the bumper filler panel mounts. As far as fiberglass bumpers go, I would only run them in a "race only" application.
Here's the front bumper. I need to get pictures of the fender but it is for the small bumper car so there would be no need to modify it to fit your car.
Here is the fender. It's a nice solid straight piece but it does have some dings that would need attention. I also have the filler panel that is behind the bumper and a front valance if you need them.
Somewhere in 74 they changed headlight buckets. The early '74 has the headlight adjustment screw on the bottom...the later '74 had them on the top and they don't swap out...the metal on the fender behind the bucket is different. If you can't find an early fender, you can notch the '74 fender like I did here. http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/maverick_38.html Be sure to get the bucket along with the fender.
Thanks guys! Id upload a photo of the damage if I could. Im going to the junk yard and checking out the year of the mav thats in there. Was the mod for the fender hard?
I didn't feel it was hard. Just measure twice and cut once. I use a Dremel with a small cut-off wheel to cut the notch. I also scored the metal with the cut-off wheel to make the fold. This made the metal bend straight and crisp.
Alright I'll remember that im almost sure its a 74 now but the junk yard is closed till Monday so I guess I'll begin with removing everything thats bent. Will there be a noticeable difference in the light housing?
The headlight buckets are different...the early one is deeper than the later years (see pic above). The headlight adjustment screw location is on the bottom on the early and top on the later years. The metal behind the bucket is different.
