I was just getting ready to refurbish the second bucket seat track because I have one side done already. I picked up a second set and was looking through them all too pick the best set. The thing I found was that the tracks from one set is shorter than the second set. Can someone tell me if there was a difference in year or type of seat. They are identical except for the height of the brackets. The slider portion is the same. I believe the first set came from a 73 and I have no idea what year the second set came from. Thanks
The shorter sliders are from an LDO car and the taller ones are from one with High back buckets in it. You can use either one, if you are tall use the LDO tracks on the High back buckets to lower them.
Could be the difference between the 72 style seat, and the 73 style bucket...I have a set of 73 seats with tracks, I could measure, maybe someone else would have some earlier tracks, to compare..
My opinion on this matches Dave's ... the shorter one is likely 73. The bottom cushion on those highbacks is a bit bulkier than the 71/72 highbacks. Do you have all four tracks for each set? .... each position is a unique piece.
I do have all four pieces to both sets. I went and picked up the second set which is the taller set after I realized that one of the tracks had a repair done on the latch arm. I refurbish the two pieces that were good from the shorter set and they are ready to go. I was hping to take a set from the second taller set and use them in place of the one with the bad slider. I now want to take the slider off of the taller one and place it on the shorter one. After measuring last night the are roughly 1/4" to 5/16" different from each other. Can you tell me the specific differences of each position between the 4? Also does anyone know how to seperate the two slider pieces.
The handles go on the left for each seat, and the ones on the right have the tab where the return spring mounts. Both inboard tracks (next to the tunnel) are the ones that use the risers to even them out. The front riser is the bell-shaped piece and the back is the block. Those inboard tracks will have much longer bolts. As far as getting the slider off the base .... there is a dimple that limits the travel. I haven't done this .... but I believe that if you were to drill that out enough that the slider will pass, you could add a bolt as stop when you re-assemble.
I got the sliders apart. I endes up taking an air hammer and a bell die and hammered the dimple flat. This allowed me to pull the the rollers and bearings out and seperate the two pieces. Once cleaned up and paint I will use my press to put a dimple back im the upper slider to hold it together again.
