I have a 74 grabber with a factory 3 speed on the floor. Everything was fine with this setup, although it did take me a day to figure out that the car had to be in reverse to remove the key from the ignition key cylinder . However, we pulled the column to weld in the patch panels for the floor and when I put the column back in I can't get the lock cylinder to turn. I can pull the key (which leads me to believe the column thinks the car is in reverse) but I can't turn the key at all. I hooked up the linkage from the column to the tranny but now the tranny won't shift. Something seems stuck on this column and I can't seem to figure it out. Any ideas out there? I can't imagine having to go looking for a different 3 speed on the floor column for my 74.....help!
Wiggle the steering wheel back and forth while you try and turn the key. I have seen where the steering wheel gets "locked" and won't allow the ignition cylinder to turn. Probably not in this case, but worth a shot.
Thanks Craig, I did try that with no success. I was hoping there was someone out there was a little first hand experience with such an issue. I'm totally confused and I can't seem to get it worked out.
