I have gotten hold of a 1352-162 T5 out of a 87 mustang lx...the trans was bolted to a healthy 5.0...it survived nicely...or did the guy just get lucky..Everything that I have read today says that's a Major no no...other then the first gear ratio difference 3.97mine /3.35 for the v8...a smaller pilot bearing...the cases look the same...are the gears built better? can I just go ebay and order up new gears? Tons of conflicting info out there...help needed...Dave
i replied to you build thread about this. 5th gear is the only gear that is interchangeable between the 4 cyl and v8
That's the pre '90 T5 rated for 265ft lb torque...The '90 still had 3.35 1st but have slightly different 2nd & 3rd ratios with higher torque rating, gears for this tran only swap to the earlier if matching cluster is used... Just don't power shift 3rd and it'll probably live...
Thanks for the info....I going to buy a new set of gears with the 335(1st) ratio...I have had to revamp everything else on the car so why build a tranny...again thanks...
i would get the gears for the 93 cobra or the z spec. it has a 2.95 first that lends it self better to rear gear ratios over 3.50. also they are supposed to be a little stronger.
