    I have a 71 200ci maverick the car turns on but won't stay on unless u put ur foot on the gas and brake.
    The car ran fine a few weeks go
    What can be wrong with it.?

    I would listen for it if you could keep the car running, just check all the hoses you can see for holes or burnt spots.

    if there's no obvious leak at the vacuum pot in the dstributor.. and the vacuum pot holds vacuum?.... I'd move away from a simple vac leak causing the issue you describe.

    Do you have points in the distributor?.. if not.. then I'd be looking towards fuel related issues next.

    how old is the gas. ive had gas that is just 3 months old go bad and cause cars to run bad. put fresh gas in and all is good.

    I use a can of Berryman B-12 to find vacuum leaks. With the car running spray around the outside of the carb and vacuum lines. When you spray over the leak it will be obvious by the way the engine temporarily smooths out.
