i hate scrap metal theives

Yeah I hate any thief, but there was never any year of Torino that was a XL...

Fairlanes wore the XL badge but only for 1966 & 1967...

 

I went with my son to look at a house for sale on Friday and found that all of the hot water baseboards were gone as well as the water plumbing and the entire furnace was "missing"

 

i think recreating the pic would be awsome. i'll have to do it some time. yeah it was about 10 years ago.


the saturday before thanksgiving a scrapper came through my neighborhood and i had a conversation with him. i told him if i ever saw him driving down my street again looking for scrap i would be on the phone with the police. made me feel good that i freaked one of those scrappers out.

 

Outskirts of Philly a couple of years ago. A guy got electrocuted and suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns while trying to cut copper wire that was coming up out of the ground at the base of a power pole with a hacksaw. Cops charged him before they put him in the ambulance.....

 

We had one of the druggies try that in an industrial park behind my house a few years ago. He must have figured, since a factory building was unoccupied and closed up, that there was no longer power leading into it - they found him smoldering at the base of the pole where he tried to cut live wires off of it - our house lights gave a flicker which, I learned later on, was when he made the final cut

 

we had a section of street lights have the wires pulled out of them...live.
also some of the dealerships had the cats, cut from under the cars on the lot...

 

Some bums stole the brass lights off a local bridge. I've done a few "no a/c" calls, where it ended up being someone took the A/C. Our local Lennox warehouse has replaced their rooftop twice this year....

I'm not a Torino expert by no means.

 

Just someone trying to upclass their Torino 500, those replaced the Torino for 1971 and were a one year only model... The Torino was demoted and replaced the Fairlane & Fairlane 500 models that were totally absent in '71... Only Fairlane to be found in '71 was on the AM/FM radio dial that were used in Torinos & Ranchero...

The XL Fairlanes & Galaxies had bucket seat std, comparable '68-'71 Torino would be the GT(but except for early '68, buckets were still optional)...

 

I work for a water company and we have several cell phone companies rent space on our water towers for their antennas. The problem there is people are stealing the brass buss bars that all of the ground cables are bolted to. They have so many contractors coming and going to do work on the sites that nobody knows who takes them. But they know it's a tower worker because you can tell they were removed by somebody who knows what they're doing and some of them are up on top of the towers. A few weeks ago two guys were arrested because they got caught stealing the bronze vases from cemetery plots. The type that go on the flat type plaques and turn over when not in use. They were caught with a couple hundred of them.

 

I wonder where someone would go to sell those. seems like the recycler has to be in on it also...

 

I think that's actually how they got caught, the recycler called the cops.

 

The place where I take scrap has you on video cameras, takes a fingerprint, and you must present a photo ID or they won't take your stuff! That won't stop theft, but if someone can't sell what they just stole, it may help deter it!

 

Same here and they take a picture of you, print that picture and a copy of your DL and put them in a file, also want tag number from vehicle, make and model as well as color, I discovered this when getting rid of old car batteries I had.

 

Where I go they take several pics. First is one of you sitting in the vehicle, holding up a # on a clip board, and your load. Then two inspectors come and look around and sometimes use some sort of metal detector looking tool. Now sit and wait your turn to unload. That huge magnet is not good to swing into the trailer bed rail . When done unloading they send you to the office where they are behind bullet proof glass. They finger print and take a picture of you holding your ID and the # on that clip board from when you entered. Then when they have your cash and showing it to you, you sign some paperwork releasing them from any criminal activity etc.. You then leave with the $40 for all the scrap you have saved up for a year and towed it up there in your 16 ft trailer picking up a couple of nails or screws in a couple of tires. And if you go the day after it rained, your glad you have 4 wheel drive so you can pull yourself out and get to the carwash so the tire guy isn't cussing you. I'm sure the theives are not a bit troubled by all these iritants.. :16suspect
