I was curious to see if anyone has ever removed and replaced that studded piece that connects to the pitman arm with a Hiem joint? I pulled off the power steering and was just looking at the steering and wondered if any one had done that..
I used to do a lot of things with hiem joints back in the 90's when I was building circle track cars out of GM Metric chassis'. I used to replace the entire tie rod assemblies with left/right threaded hiems and a threaded aluminum adjuster sleeve. They even sell cone adaptors to slip into the tapered holes of center links and spindles so a straight bolt can be used for the hiems. I know that some racers were doing similar things to their idler and pitman arms but we left them alone. The thing I found was how free the steering was after modifying everything that we could. It really takes the friction and binding out of the steering using those hiems. You just have to buy a good quality hiem and not the economy priced versions
So know that the comet is running.. I need to get all the slack and worn suspension out of the car... I am leaning towards heim jointing the tie rods and also the end that the power streeing valve goes on to... Does anyone know the Thread size that is on the draglink?
