My latest scheme for the '70 is the daily driver route. How about a 250 with a mild cam, holley 2bbl,header and a 5-spd w/3.55's out back?Would this run as well as a stock '70's 302?What kind of mileage could I expect(mid 20's I'd hope)?I've got a '74 250 and a '70 170 or 200(can't tell which),should I put the earlier head on the 250 for more compression?I like the idea of a v8/5-spd and I know i'd be fairly economical, but the 6 sure would be easier to change plugs, plus it would be diferent. But I don't want to be diferent if it's gonna be slower than a smogger 302 or get worse mpg than the v8.I'd like for it to be capable of at least 10.50 1/8 mi times and deliver 25mpg or so.Is it possible?

I don't know if they are still around, but at one time they made a 4bbl manifold for the 250 (and even one for 3 duces!!!!) with a mild-to-moderate cam and some good gears, it would be an awesome stoplight car.

The 70 that I had when I was a teenybopper with a 2bbl auto got about 20 - 22 no matter how hard I rode it...

You probably seen them for the 300. It has a bolt on manifold. The 250 is cast into the head. THe slickest set up for these is 3 single barrels but you have to have the head/manifold machined to get it to work. Not very cheap.

I seen back when I was 14 a guy run a maverick with a 300ci inline 6 run in the tens in the1/4 so it can be done. I beleive it was all motor but I was really young and just learning about drag racing and cars.

You're very likely right. I'm not much of a mechanic, just relying on dim memories.

    Sorry for the mis-information...
