I currently have no tailpipes so everything dumps out just before the rear axle from my flowmaster 40's. I was wondering if anyone makes a set of rear exiting tailpipes that will fit a 72 Comet? I thought I had seen someone say they used these before http://www.summitracing.com/parts/flo-15807/overview/make/ford

I'm really tired of blowing dirt up onto my freshly cleaned black paint

Open to hearing what everyone has to say! I'd like to go with 2.5" pipes

i had my duels done at an exhaust shop, it was alot easier, i didn't want to worry about clearance issues. i paid $220 or so to have my whole exhaust done, i went with dual glasspacks though

While you are at it, you might look into having your pipes run outside the frame rails if someone is bending them for you. It is a little tight, but someone with some skills can get it done. I like the way it looks a lot better than pipes that are inside the rails. I would ask for referrals from other local car guys if you don't already have someone in mind.

I wish they were lit a bit better in this shot, but it will give you the idea.

It's best to just have an exhaust shop do it for you.
No one sells tailpipes specifically for a Maverick.

Old Mustang tanks are a lot wider than a Maverick tank.

My tail pipes are 3" (along with the rest of the exhaust) and tuck down behind the rear tires. It was custom bent by a friend of mine.

If you use a set of LX Fox Body tailpipes and twist them in there, you can have them exit just behind the tire. I did this years ago when I had my 2.5 exhaust. You would need to get the tailpipes to go over the axle then go between the spring and the lower quarter. Before welding them up, I cut the tailpipes on angle, so they were flush with the bottom of the quarter. I may have an old pic around, it's been about 10 years since I had that exhaust. It will look like the pic above, but less bending.

Hey what is that valance off of? We want to do exactely that but didn't know there was a valance already precut so to speak, while we are on it and not to hi-jack your thread OP but it seemed like this fits: We are currently running Magnaflow's with end dump's, idling sounds nice BUT stomp it and OMG it's loud, what muffler's would ya'll recommend that sound nice at idle and while letting you hear it don't get so loud AND has anyone utilized the cut-outs with or with out in cab lever to open them? Thanks in advance

There is no rear valance that is cut out for the exhaust. All the Mavericks and Comets came with single exhaust. The one that you like was custom cut to match where he wanted his exhaust to exit. It does look good and looks as if it might have originally came like that.
