I'm thinking my driveshaft is almost at the end of its life..last time i put in a U-joint on the rear the ears seemed to be very weak and bent easily (as well as banged right up from previous installs from someone)...so i figured what a better time that now to upgrade? i read somewhere that someone had a 3.5" before and it maybe hit the transmission tunnel? i can't remember if it was on here though & if they had something else modded to cause this. either way i'll be happy with a new and stronger driveshaft but a 3.5" is a lot bigger and would be nicer...but if all i can do is 3"..3" it will be.

searched for a bit and really couldn't find anything...hope someone knows what size works! thanks.

That is really saying a lot for the stocker driveshaft.

Fox body? I've heard that a aluminum driveshaft from either a windstar or aerostar van will bolt right into a fox body. Maybe it will also work in a maverick then?

Yep.. nice link. Saved into the library.

As for the use of the stock driveshaft?.. many have put stupid power into some undersized units through the years without failure. But.. the margin is much lower and they do fail more easily. And when they do.. you usually don't want to be standing around the car when they let go or pop the weak little u-joints. Tunnel and floor board damage is quite common too.

I've ran a small stock drive shaft on my car as long as I've had it. from my 6 cyl to the 347 and now the LSX...Detroit locker w/traction control and slicks a few times at the track...
    C-4...full race C-4...AOD...Full race AOD w/trans brake...Gear Vender overdrive...and now a 700R4 OD.
    275x60x15s...

the only drive shaft I've had a problem with was an aluminum one I tried. I hammered it twice in the street, both times I tore the rear yoke off...
only good thing...I was close enough to my house that I coasted back into my shop both times...
