has anybody put a AOD or (preferably)AOD-E in a maverick. It should fit to a 302. its a pickup transmission so the ratios would be low but that's ok, would make the car feel faster. plus you could always compensate with an 8.8 swap with the appropriate gear ratio. my long tubes are disagreeing with my clutch and i just wanna drive the damn car. auto or manual. and help is appreciated.

im pretty sure you can buy stand alone electronics for those E transmissions. that plus a shift kit would make that tranny awesome. so it has been done.

so to do the swap i would need:
    AOD-E transmission
    PCM or stand alone computer
    cross member(custom?)
    flywheel/torque converter from donor car w/ 302
    shorter driveshaft (explorer?)
shifter of some kind (parts store unit?)

am i missing anything? i doNT have an exhaust yet so that will already be custom

Regardless of origin AOD & AODE have same ratios... The wide ratio 4R70W has deeper gears than AOD/AODE but AFAIK are also all same ratio... O/D is same for all three...

The truck and versions from certain full size models are longer than C4 so do require a custom D/S...

You'll need a 164 tooth flexplate that matches balance of your engine, either 28 or 50 oz... Also has to match pattern of torque converter, stockers can be 11.25" or 12"(went through this one when I swapped a 4R70W into a '93 Grand Marquis that orig had a AODE)......

    302/5.0 1980 & earlier are 28oz ballance, from '82-up 50oz('81 is a grey year)...

What did this trans come out of? If it was a 4.6 or 5.4 mod motor it won't fit a 5.0...

AOD have the Windsor bolt pattern only...

The few 4.6 that used AOD actually had the Windsor pattern instead of the unique modular pattern(sorta like five & six bolt varieties of 289), AODE & 4R70W come in both flavors...

There is a easy way to tell difference, Windsor has two bolt starter mount while mod motors use a three bolt...

i don't have the tranny yet, if my autocrafters parts are still on back order i will consider this option. just trying to figure out what i need to price it out. i really wanna drive my car. i was gonna rebuild a pull a part f150 or crown vic AODE with a shift kit and stuff.

The Crown Vic with AODE/4R70w all have modular pattern, as do trucks from '97-up... The older box Vics all had AOD as did early '92 4.6 Aeros(changed mid year, yeah I had one of those as well)...

Basically Windsor pattern AODE/4R70W are only found in vehicles that had 5.0/5.8 engines... Watch out though, F & E series often have the big bruiser E4OD behind 5.0, my '96 F-150 does...
