Ok so I am baffled here.
I picked up a roller maverick the other day that a guy had set up for autocross.
Pretty much gutted interior, lightweight hood, etc etc etc.

Anyways so he had a 4 speed top loader in the car with a 347 stroker. I found a crazy z bar linkage ( I think thats what it is) in the passenger side of the car just hanging out.

I am just kind of loss what else I need to complete the setup for a 4 speed in the car.

The clutch pedal has a rod on it thats threaded on the engine side of it. It fits into the linkage with a nut holding it steady. The other end of the linkage is just a flat piece with a bolt in it. What do I need to connect there to make the clutch linkage setup work with a 4 speed?

    Pictures incoming....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm hoping to have this poor maverick turned around pretty quickly.
I will post pics up of the car soon. I plan to dynomat the floors and put some new carpet in her.

I have a fresh 306 I just put together for it that I just need to work out some bugs on.

Oh and forgot it has tubular k members up front with adjust camber caster stuff ( lol not a steering / suspension guy ) and good old fat swaybars with a 9" rear end with 4.10 spool.

Anyways please let me know what you think. I'm really excited to be a part of the maverick community again.

    Thanks

you are missing the bottom half of the 2 piece 302 "Z" bracket, which is bolted together, the bolt is there on the upper section. you might beable to locate used one on this site or AutoKrafters has new repro ones for sale. good luck!

You wouldn't happen to have a link to the autokrafter one would you?
Not having any luck finding one.

    Thanks for the heads up.

sorry picture did not copy through, but at least you have the part number, you could also do a google search using the part number, a few NOS shops that specialize in obsolete Ford parts may have in stock, but price maybe high!

you may also require other parts, which are listed in AutoKrafters catalog, such as clutch release rod, various bushings etc., you probably will have to source out the threaded pin which attaches to the side of the engine block where the other end of the Z bar attaches.
Someone on the forum may have these parts too, good luck!

Just went through this with my f100. Went to a late model block so I had to fan up a bracket off of the bell housing to stabilize it.

I can't believe the price of the z bar......... my god it must cost about 10 bucks each to manufacture.

That upper is actually an Autokrafters part, not a factory Z bar part. The factory one is stepped where that bolt is, so the upper and lower interlock. The AK part does not have this provision. If you can get just the AK lower you will be good to go. The ford lower will not bolt up the the one you have.

    Thanks guys

Hopefully I don't have to buy a new one. I reached out to the previous owner and he seems to think it might be in a box he had in the floor board of the car. If he does he's gonna mail it to me :thumbs2:

Hoping for the best. With all my engine issues I don't need any more obstacles right now lol.

Going with a hydraulic T/O bearing would simplify your dilemma by eliminating the Z bar

A hydraulic throw out bearing also gets rid of the clutch fork, giving you much needed room for headers.:whew:
