That is the fun part about owning one of these. People will walk right past a cherry Mustang or Camaro to check it out. Then again, isn't that one of the reasons we like them?

I browse CL quite a bit and there's usually several listed in the PacNW. A lot of four doors lately. Plus a couple that guys want ridiculous amounts for. I paid $1500 for mine in good mechanical condition in 2010. Got lucky in the summer, a shop in Portland had a grabber hood minus the scoop inserts in solid condition listed for only $125.

There's 4 Mavericks within 20mi of me! As for finding them in the junkyard, not happening! To me this is a good thing, as one of these should have an owner who either drives it or uses it for parts. Junkyards today don't keep old stuff. They send it to China for scrap, as those cars were actually metal! Here's the last one I saw in a local yard. This was maybe 5yrs ago. :)

Since they haven't made any new ones in 37 years, they are bound to become scarce.

I agree that the fact that restored Mavericks are so rare to see is one of the main attractions of owning a Mav. I know I've always liked having something different than everybody else. The fact that prices for some of the more popular classics have gone through the roof makes it even more satisfying. I am starting to wonder if we're past the tipping point of having many Mavericks left out there though. Lots have been crushed, lots have rusted into the ground, and precious few have been saved and restored.

Even in the 80's, it was rare to see another at cruise nights, but back then they were just cheap rusted out daily drivers.

I kind of compare the Maverick to the Mustang as is the Nova to the Camaro - Mustangs and Camaros were the first choice to hot rod or restore while the Maverick and the Nova were left to be crushed in the scrap yards by the thousands - now the economy says we need to move down one notch on the food chain and the Maverick and Nova are no where to be found :(

I can go to any local car show(exclusive of Ford/Chrysler specific) and see lots of Novas, no so with Mav/Comet... Like it or not the Nova is at least a half notch above our cars...

around here mavericks and comets are a plenty
I bought my first one for $500 within 2 miles from my house
I picked up another comet for free but gave my friend with a tow truck $30 to get it for me
I bought another comet in modesto for $375 (curb hoppers old car)
after that I bought a 4 door in redding for $375 running and driving parted that out and crushed the rest
bought my comet gt in raymond california for $1975
bought curb hoppers grabber for $250
we recently went to waterford for another 4 door for $200 and I know where theres 3 grabbers just setting within 30 minutes of my house
I also have seen 1 comets and 2 mavericks come through the local picknpull in the last year and on craigslist theres several for sale in the area

ps I didnt include the ones I know of that are members like red72grabber and his brother so theres plenty around here. catching them for the right price is the hard part finding them is easy

You bought that 4-door from Waterford eh? I saw that one listed for months and months. Since you have a surplus of Grabbers up there, point me in the direction of a halfway decent one ;).

BTW, I'm not talking about the last 5-10 years as far as Mavericks becoming scarce. I'm talking about the last couple of years, especially the last year or so. It's been a dramatic drop-off in the number of drivers I see and especially online listings.

I talked to the guys dad once upon a time and he said the motor was a rebuilt 289 it has a decent interior its orange and black like the outside it has fiberglass kick panels for speakers I think he said it has a bad trans.
I dont have a phone number I just know where the guy lives.
I didnt check the vin to see if it was a REAL grabber but thats what the hood said it was

Agree. Lots of Nova's in NE Ohio too. Not too surprising given that you had so many engine options.
