Wondering if anyone can tell me what the 16-pin electrical connector located on the right side of the steering column underneath the dash is for. I have an aftermarket, 7 sheet wiring diagram for my '75 which isn't too much help. I've checked it both with the key on and off and doesn't seem to have any juice flowing through it. :hmmm:

In the area your talking about are 2 large connectors. I dont know how many pins there are and right now I'm too lazy to go out and look. But anyway one is the turn signal switch and the other is the ignition switch. Could it be one of these?

The only connector with nearly that many pins is the instrument cluster plug. Turn signal has about 10 pins and the headlight has like 8.

I know it's a 16 pin, but only 8 to 10 wires leading to it. Can't run out and check right now either, am at work. If it is an instrument cluster plug, why is it not connected to anything? Everything electrical works fine on the dash/interior. Since I'm off tomorrow, and not too cold in the garage (Nebraska) looks like I'll have to do some tracing; I hate electrical stuff! :banghead:

I can't think of anything else that would have that many pin locations

    Does it look like this?

Not quite that large, more slim. I'm assuming it might be some type of stereo harness/connector. When I bought the vehicle, it was minus a stereo and this connector is there where the stereo used to be.

Come to think of it, after taking a closer look at yours, it does resemble mine. Yours just looks like an older type connector. What's the connector for?

That is the instrument cluster connector from a 76. Ah, ... but you mentioned stereo equipment. Aftermarket connector for a CB radio or stereo left over from some previous owner would make sense too ..... :) - I was totally thinking stock wiring.

Guess your gonna have to get under the dash and take a peak tomorrow.

Could be the starter interupt system that was used on 1974 models. Maybe somebody has taken the yellow box out that goes under the radio.

Under his name it says he has a 75 Mav - but that is a very good thought I didn't think of! The circuit board for that control is like 7 or 8 flat pins, so it may look like 16 if it is a double sided connector plug!

MarulMav, did you ever look at it yet to see what it was?

(regarding the "yellow box") The seat-belt starter interrupt plug was double sided, I think (removed mine a few months back) so it did look like 16 or 20 pins. I remember trying to figure out where they all went, and noticed that half were dead-ends. But there were only 8 or 10 wires going into it. AND, "to the right and under the dash" would be the appropriate location, right about where the stereo was located. The yellow box mounted right below the stereo on a plate.

No, never found out what it was for but I did find one ignition on "hot wire" that I used for a newly placed stereo. If I was to guess, I'd say it was for the seatbelts.

Well, if everything else works, its the only thing it can be. Glad someone got it, I was stumped.
