i've been mulling over different ideas about my 170 i-6 engine i was thinking of swapping it out for a 200 or a v-6 but what i would like to know is if there is anything i can do to improve the power i have with the 170 instead of replacing it any ideas are welcome i'm not looking to hot rod it, just want more power to climb etc...without major modification:huh:

A set of headers and free flowing exhaust will help some. That would probably be the easiest and cheapest upgrage to make. Problem with these engines is it seems the number of cylinders in inverse to the cost of going fast. In other words, the less cylinders you have, the more it will cost you to go fast. You should see what it costs to make a Harley go fast.

I'd drop a 250 with a header in it. Only thing you'll need diffrent is a bellhousing, torque converter and shift linkage if your car is a colum shift. All of those parts are easy to come by. Will make a world of diffrence. I have no problem pulling out into traffic or crusing 70-75 mph down the interstate and my 250 has over 200,000 miles on it.
