A few years ago, I fixed a furnace for a guy here in town, he was an engineer for Ford, and worked at the St.Thomas assembly plant when it opened. He told me that he was there right from the beginning of Maverick production. Over the next few years, of maintaining his furnace, he'd give me more and more stuff as he found it, his basement was full! I don't think he ever threw anything out. Anyways, I've had these books for a while, and have shared some of the info, but not much. Since we kinda got on the topic in another post, I thought I'd post a few scans...just for everyone's enjoyment. First scan, is of the cover of the trim manual. Second, is a scan comparing the 1969 Falcon, to the new 1970 Falcon. Third, is of the fender emblem... It's neat to look at the dates on these pages.... I also have the start up and change over books for each model year, and lots of other good info.
so when did the name maverick come in to play those drawings made it look like originally it was going to be the next gen. falcon
Thanks for the scan, Dave. That is cool. Sure looks like, as of mid 1968, we were all going to driving Falcons. Wonder why they changed it over to Maverick?
Great history lesson! Thanks, Dave. So, when did the name Falcon drop off and Maverick take over? Jim
I can't tell when the name changed, anything dated later than 1968, says "Maverick" Maybe I could call Ford in Detroit, and ask?? I also have some books labeled "Special Maverick" which excited me, until I opened them, and found it was the Pinto. Which in itself is interesting...
