Finally got my Maverick! Super excited. Will post pics tomorrow. Will be a little bit of a project but I got the time. Just a few questions

    1. Took awhile for the car to start and died a couple times when I gave it gas on the road. Once it warmed up it drove fine. But this took a little while. Theres a black lever under the dash that I assume might be a choke. I've never drove a vehicle like this before. Is there a specific way to start it like there was for my old 64 F-100? Any idea?

    2. I noticed when I filled it the first time with gas I overfilled the tank. I assume theres no shutoff. I don't have a manual yet so any idea of many gallons the 73 two door tank gets?

    3. Until i get a manual I won't know much about it. What weight of oil? Type of antifreeze? Stuff like that.

    4. My VIN is 3X91L282917 but my insurance couldn't find it. Any idea where I could get some info on it?

Will post pics tomorrow. Once it got warm it drove like a dream. Super excited.

P.S. I will eventually want to add disk brakes. Any ideas for what to use would be great.

Congratulations! I share your excitement. The over filling at the fuel pump is a problem with the pump. It taking the engine some time to warm up could be caused by no thermostat or stuck open thermostat. there a lot of info on the forum on changing to disc brakes do a search cause I dont remember it all. Good luck.

Thanks guys. Car made it back great the whole 6 hours. When I got back I noticed it was leaking antifreeze. Opened the hood to discover it was the relief hose that today would go into a backup box by the wiper fluid. Anyone done a modification to this so it goes into a reservoir? Pics coming soon

Got a few issues. Noticed a gas smell and a drip leak that I hope is coming from the filler hose. Came home from work to notice a flat tire on the front drivers side. Need a new drivers side seat belt. But drives great!

Very clean looking car! As for seat belts, some would argue you should get new ones. Check seatbeltplanet.com.

At risk of starting an oil thread war, just search oil and antifreeze. I use any good brand name conventional 10-30 oil that is on sale. My favourite antifreeze is Prestone and I have never seen any rust in any of my cars using it. Just my two cents. There are hundred of other opinions.

Thanks for the advice on the seat belts. Is it safe to say belts for a 73 Mustang would work on a 73 Maverick?
