Hey all, this is my 75 Comet GT that we fixed up and swapped parts to look more like a Brazilian Maverick GT. Total build time was about 8 months from start to finish. I bought parts from this forum a long time ago, but never got around to posting my ride, so here we go. Build was in Edmonton area, Alberta, and car is currently just south of Calgary. Dad and I built it as a project together, and now he likes my car better than his own (57 ford custom). It was a heck of a project, so I've got a few pictures through the build. I won't go super into depth, but mechanically she's mostly stock (engine aside, of course). Visually, we did maverick small bumper swaps, grabber hood, rims and tires (though they've been swapped again since these pictures), brazil gt stripe kit (thanks Acornridgeman!), custom lower tier of dash, gauges, and a wooden grant GT steering wheel. Future mods will likely include a t5 swap, but that'll be once I have money (now a college student). Anyway, the pictures are what everybody really wants, so here goes. That's her on the trailer when we picked her up for the first time. Definitely had seen better days. She'd been sitting in a field in Creston, BC for over 10 years, and then Gene picked her up and she sat in Calgary until we came around. One of our first issues: Obviously she'd been in a collision. The front bumper brackets were completely wedged in. So we redneck fixed that real quick. Not too long after that, we picked up a parts car from Raymond, and took the small bumpers, valance pans, and about a million other nickel and dime pieces. Bought the car for 700. Took tons of parts off (worth way more than 700 to us) and sold the car for 500. But not before trading the pedal assembly, hood, and some interior pieces (plus 700 cash) for a set of centerline wheels, 215/70/14 Radial t/a tires, and a (rough) steel grabber hood, from a gent named Richard. I'll put those pictures at the end. And after that, it was just putting enough together to it to paint, then putting everything else together. sorry not all pictures are in order, and I don't have many of the finished product right now, will try to get more when I go home from school next weekend! For the best picture, skip to the last attachment!
Nice looking car...Good job...Gotta ask though. That grabber hood with the Sprint stripes, was that painted on??? Or was it a decal???
from New Brunswick! What a nice car! You sure did do a lot of work on the old girl!! Thanks for sharing all the pictures! I noticed the hood, too. IIRC, I remember seeing that hood on a V8 Sprint advertised for sale on the Alberta Kijiji site a few years ago. That whole car looked really good at the time, and I believe it also had a Grabber rear spoiler. It was a neat car!!
Yes all, it was off of that sprint car. A gent named Richard bought it. Unfortunately he is not keeping it a "Sprint" car, and needed a normal Maverick hood, which we traded him along with our original Comet GT hood Scoop. The sprint stripes were definitely decals. Thanks for the compliments @Paul. Still learning to use this forum so apologies for not quoting everyone individually.
