The reason I asked, is because the E.C.T.A is now holding the 200mph standing mile run in Wilmington, Ohio. Living in Ohio, It has giving me a desire to be (i think) the first Maverick owner/driver to run 200+mph. I know, day dream huh.
I heard these cars were aerodynamically limited to around 140-160 before they start wanting to rip apart. I'd start by removing any and all trim pieces that could get ripped off iat high wind speeds.
I don't think it's impossible to attain that speed, but stopping from that speed may be another issue! Going in a generally straight direction at 200 mph may be another concern w/ the Maverick!!! HOWEVER!!!! If you can do this, it would be awesome!!!! Jim P.
This one has http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=86898 It was at the Throw down In T-Town last October. It does have a top fuel motor in it though. The owner wrecked the dragster that the motor was in and decided to try something new. Bobo
It is owned by Scott Palmer racing. I will see if I can find some video of it someplace. The first pass it ran a 4.10 and the final pass that it ran I believe it ran a 3.92 or 93 not for sure but it was around 240 mph if I remember correctly. Bobo
About a minute into this video you can see it run down the track. No audio on that part of it but at least you can see it. Bobo
Sometime ago, maybe 7/10years ago I saw one at Bonneville Speed Week, and he made it to just a little over 200, I think it was 212's somewhere. It looked like an old ProStock car and had a 427 TP between the fenders. I've seen a lot very healthy (HP/TQ) stock body cars try at Bonneville but never make it.....................200+ is a magic number. So is this a "running" 1 mile or "standing start" 1 mile? If it's a standing start good luck................you would need a drag car with 6spds plus an overdrive or..........................I'm sure Joe Dirts car could probably do that with the right gears.......................................maybe without coming apart.
Cool that someone finally made a Grabber into a Pro Mod ... About time! As cool as that class is to go see, really gets old looking at just about every other car being an old Camaro. And this is in a class known for diversity! Too many 90s Camaros and Firebirds too (can't blame them, probably best aero body for the class) There are a slew of other body styles there ... there is a Superbird or two. Shoebox 50s Chevies chopped to oblivion. A Duster. Watching this class, in person, is as close as you can get to the old Fuel Altereds. Never know if they will make it all the way down the track, rarely straight-line.
yeah see, thats what i dont want.a maverick body put on a race car frame. anyone can do that. and they have.
If you like ProMod's here is one and you will never see another one like it in the class. At the ProMod Door Slammer races a Sacramento last month they broke into the high 5's.....................wipped out the cam and had to pack it in. What the Youtube video all the way through.
The thing is ... A) You do not get to run faster than 9 seconds without a "race car frame" ... tech will not let you play and it is good common sense. Going that fast, you better have a serious amount of cage around you. B) An alcohol funny car motor (2500 HP!) demands it too. It would twist a unibody car into uselessness in short order. You could never beef it up enough. Olerodder, Cool Valient! Had to look at it a few times to figure out is wasn't an old BMW. Come to think of it, someone is running a 1980ish BMW 320 bodied Pro Mod ... saw it a Bradenton. Went to great efforts to keep it looking as original as possible too. I would have brough a camera that night, but my main job was keeping an eye on my 7 year old grandson ... Night 0 Fire ... jets, wheelstanders, Pro mods ... a birthday present for both of us. Huge night for him ... wore him out.
