Ok, so in the process of locating a 302 or 289 that we can afford, we are trying to fix my 250 inline six to running condition. So here's the thing; we brought the car home a LONG time ago, it started and ran fine then, now, we tried to start it back up, it would crank but ir ran extremely rough, we change the spark plugs, made it a little better, then started to get rough again. The next part is what we don't understand - we took the valve cover off and it ran great, no shaking, no rough idling or anything. We had to replace that gasket after taking it off, we got the gasket in, put the cover back on, and yet again it runs rough. We changed the carb and it got just a little bit better. So, we started thinking of different things and one thing we found is when we take Spark Plug 4, it may be 3 or 5 we haven't checked again today, we've been fixing our truck but anyways, one of the spark plugs is getting excessive gas, we take it off, it starts spitting out gas. We are confused as to what is causing this issue and how to fix it, has anyone had similar problems or able to help?
    Thanks.

Spitting raw gas is likely a carb issue... Would be a good idea to run a compression check to be sure that hole doesn't have a burnt/stuck valve...

A bad PCV valve can cause a miss at idle but shouldn't cause the spitting fuel issue...
