Hey Guy I bought a 3 speed floor shift for my 72 mav and i am trying to install it but i have ran in to a problem:confused:. Looking at the tail shaft of the transmisson i dont see any place for it to bolt upto. Am i suppose to have a mounting bracket for the shifter or do i have to make a mounting plate to go around the tail shaft. I dont know if it is a short or long shaft, And does it make a difference.
I sent you a wiring diagram several months ago and haven't seen/heard from you since. Did you get it? Sam
Most shifters come with a mounting plate of some kind, along with all the hardware you need to mount the plate to the side of the transmission. Usually The front of the plate bolts to the 2 bolts that go in the tailshaft and bolts to the body of the trans. The back is held on with a U bolt that goes around the rear of the tail shaft, kinda like a rear axle to the spring. If you just got a shifter, there might be an installation kit you need also. From the factory, the 3 speed trans only have threaded mounting bosses cast into the tail shaft, when they came from the factory with a floor shifter.
Mines just bolted to the floor which i know isn't good but works for now till i can do something better.
