A friend of mines dad had a heater motor hooked up to his air cleaner for pulling travel trailor up the mountains were the air was thinner, claimed it helped, also had wiper washer hose routed to spray on his fuel pump to keep it from vapor locking

I've seen some guys hook the smog pump up as blower too. It is an air pump. That hair dryer is just strange.

A little common sense should tell you that the airflow from any contraption like that will never come close to affecting the engine power.
To get any effect, it first has to move at least more air than the engine consumes by it'self (called super charging) a condition of positive boost in the intake system to raise cylinder pressure.
Don't think a heater bower, weedwacker, leaf blower or any such device has what it takes to accomplish this.
On my car, the blower is guite large and runs the rotors at more tha 10,000 rpm to generate enough back pressure for 8 lbs boost.

Seen many variations of homemade turbo/supercharger kits. They are all the same dumb ideas in different packages.
