Don't have all of the details about the tranny, just know we're talkin automatic and I wanna know as a general rule will a 302 transmission bolt to a 351 engine in any case ?

This is also all going in my 75 mercury comet which currently has a 250

Is it a c4 or a c6. Either will bolt up to a 351w, but the c4 is smaller and will fit better in the Maverick, IMO.:)

Straight and to the point, good stuff.
So I don't have to worry about going with that option ?

As long as the 351 isn't an "M" version, it'll fit. Just make sure you use the correct imbalance flexplate on the 302. 28 oz/in up to 1981's, 50 oz/in for 182 and later 302's. If your 302 is a pre 81, the Windsor flexplate will work.

Alright, so had a look at the 302 engine , the belts have a serpentine setup and the guy claims the transmission is an MX. 3 speed automatic. Are we lookin at a problem there ?

Oh and the engine is coming out of mercury lincoln. Not sure of the year. I'm told I can have any paers outta the car I want as well

 Depends. An MX is the 60's predecessor to the FMX. Bullet proof but no parts for em now. I have one haging in my shop out of a 63 Merc, tough enough that we drove the car around the back yard throwing it in reverse to stop cause the brakes didn't work :biglaugh:What year is the 302 ? That's the real question as to it's worth and if it's got good parts. As a rule, any of the 1980-1985 motors are good only as scrap. Thin blocks, bad heads, weak cranks.

I mean overall its s good solid engine so I'd say its a good deal. But there's all kinds of electrical components with this engine and my Comet is literally void of anything electrical past the battery radio and flashers
