I am swapping my 250 for a 351 modified in my 77 mav. How difficult is this going to be.

To fit a 351m, you need to do a 'tower-ectomy' and convert to a Mustang 2 front end.
After doing all that work, a 460 will fit, so why use a 351???
Either get a 351 that will fit, or do the M2 front end and use a 460.

If you do it, document and take pictures all the way through for future reference... :D

    Good idea.
I don't think this swap has been done.
The 351m has unique engine mounts and 460 bellhousing.
So you know that you will need to fab up mounts and mod the floorpan for starters.
Headers are also not made for anything close to this swap, so you will need to make a set.

haha, i bet he is rethinking this at the moment....
    I'd just go with a 347 Stroker!
    haha

    I just bought a 62 falcon with a 351C shoehorned in it.
So it should fit in yours. With mod's of course
The 351M is pretty close to the same size as the Cleveland, if not the same.
The exhaust manifolds like 1/4" from the tower bolts, I'm real curious how I'm going to pull them plugs right now. They really squeezed in.
Soon the shock towers will be gone to make room for headers, and a straight axle put in.

Back on your topic, why a 351M?
guess it might be fine in a real light car.

Not an easy swap. But if you have mechanical background and imagination it is possible. Lots of little problems that you will have to figure out on the way. Notching the shock towers might make life the easiest. So if you gotta welder, you can getter done! Keep us posted.

    No.
The 351m is the same cubes, but physically is quite a bit larger.
The deck height is 1" higher on each cylinder bank.
Now think about that in terms of your Falcon engine bay...
Can it handle that extra inch per side?
I am not familiar with your engine bay, but the stock manifolds won't even fit in a Mav bay. At least not without being radically ground down to their basic shape. Then they still don't have 1/4" from the towers.
After all this, it still leaves out the big block bellhousing and huge C6 that fits behind the 351m/400. Mavs need floor pan mods just to use the 'baby' C6 on a small block.
It's a lot of extra work and weight to get the same cubes as a 351w/c or even 347 (I'm not a huge 347 fan, but recognize potential)

yeah i agree with ratio, M swap im sure is alot of time and money , when you can do W/C and still have 351 cubes , alot lighter also, but i would suggest C , W is a pain as far as headers , but if you do the M post some pics id like to see , good luck:yup:

I knew the 351M and the 400 had a taller deck height but didn't know it also went outwards.
None the less. That C6 is big (I got one on my 56 behind my 351C), you can build a C4 to handle up to 500-600 hp which is plenty more than you are trying to get.
