Could someone tell me if there is a differance between a 351 Windsor intak and a 302 intake. If so, why. Is it deck height or port size. I could use details. Also, I know the code for '69 (c9) and '70 (d0) heads, so would that make '71 (d1)? And if someone could tell me what I would have to do to put 351W heads on a '77 or a '73 302. It would greatly.

Yes the 351w intake is wider, much wider, than the 302's. It'd due to the 351w's 1.3" taller deck, which makes the heads further apart, hence a wider intake. The heads will interchange between the windor engines...except the 351 uses 1/2" head bolts instead of 7/16" for all other windsor engines. If you want to put 351w heads on a 302, all you have to do is get some special washers or studs that allow you to use the 7/16" bolts with the 1/2" head bolt holes. Or you could drill the block to 1/2". Works either way. Good luck

    you know your stuff!

my name is misfitruss and i need a little advice. i saw one of your replies and i would like to to read what i posted.

basically i was a 69 302 ford engine and i want to put some 351w heads on it. would it work? and also i have a 351w air intake i would like to put on also. would they go together. last question i promise. i got a 750 holly double pumper on it now. my friends says it to big for my engine so i figure if i upgrade my heads and intake it would all go together smoothy.

the heads will fit if you buy the special washers. they are available from summit or jegs and are about $60 if i remember right. the intake will not work. the 351w block is wider than the 302. if the 302 is pretty much stock, the 750 will be too big in my opinion. i would try a 600 or 650.:)

You will need to inspect the heads to make sure that they have the steam relief holes in the cylinder head deck mating surface. You also need to make sure you get the correct intake gaskets for the water port shape of the heads your using. Other members already mentioned the special stepped bolts or stepped reducer t-washers that will be needed. 302's use a 7/16 bolt and a 351w uses a 1/2 bolt. ARP sells stepped bolts as well as a stepped washer solution.

Edelbrock also makes the stepped washers Part # 9680

    Summit and Jegs sell them

A good and cheap alternative to doing 351w heads is this:get a set of 87-93 5.0 mustang heads. They're compatible with unleaded gas,you can usually pick up a set for around 50-100(or less if you know some 5.0 racers),you don't have to worry about the bolt & washer deal and you probably won't have to rebuild them for a mild street car.Port the exhaust side to match up with a header gasket and don't forget to plug those emission holes on the back of 'em.
