Ok, i figure i'll ask you guys because you've probably looked into it or have seen it. I've got super 44s and hooker 6901s lined up for my exhaust, i want to drop them off at muff shop to install and run the pipes custom. (not just straight out the back) I like seeing the pipes too so i dont want to dump them over the axle, is it possible on a 4 door to poke 'em out in front of the rear wheels? Or will i likely be stuck with stickin em out the back? I wanted to ask because the muffler shops i've been to around town tend to shy away from custom stuff and want to do the easiest route if they can. Any advice is appreciated, thanks! -Mike
i would think poking it out the side would be an easier install then out the back since they dont need to make the bend over the axle and around the gas tank. uses a little less pipe too
Thats not gonna happen. In order to Exit your pipe out the side, you really need a special muffler. And its not an easy at all. The muffler needs to be installed in the recess where your back seat is, the exhust leaves the muffler too close to the rear axle to just break to the side. You would need to redirect back towarts the front of the car untill you clear the rear tire, then make a 90 deg turn to exit in front of the rear tire. with super 44s, there just wont be enough room to exit the muffler and make a U-turn between the axle and the pertruding rear floor board. If you move the mufflers forward (as in under the floor board, instead of under the back seat) They will be way too low and bottom out in no time at all. That would not be a good solution. A few cars I know came stock with side exhaust: AAR 'cuda, T/A Challnger, Cobra Mustang. They all solved the problem using a special muffler with exhaust entering and exiting the same side of the muffler. There are a few manufactureres that make this special muffler, Flowmaster isnt one of them. a picture is worth a thousand words: Steeda, Spintech, Magnaflow, all make mufflers for side exhaust aplications... I am thinking you arent going to spend big dollars on one of these exhaust combos. I think the easiest , cheapest solution would be to go over the axle and exit between the spring and the frame behind the rear tire. The exhaust will still be on the side, just behind the rear tire, not in front, Ask around, a lot of guys on here have it run that way.
Very VERY helpful response!! Thank you! I had no idea the side mount would be that complicated, I think i will go behind the rear tire out the side instead now so that i can use the super44s (already have them so need to make em work). Pictures always good to see lol!! Thanks again! -Mike
