My 4 door Comet looks beat to hell(check out my pictures) but runs pretty well, it's reliable too what with me replacing or rebuilding just about every damn thing in/on it.

I'm eventually gonna go with a Pro Touring look(but actually drive the thing, not just trailer it to Goodguys every year) when I make enough money.

I certainly don't want to upset anyone here, but a "true sleeper" is a car that looks like "Ole Granny Jones" car that she drives only on Sundays. It needs to look nice, painted, only one exhaust pipe showing (and not a loud lumpy noise like a dragster), hubcaps................just a nice stocker.
It's been awhile since I street raced, but when a "pile" pulled up next to me............I just laughed or rev'd the motor and let him burn the rubber.
Some of my generations all time sleepers were, a stock looking 53 Ford Coupe..........with a very healthy 427 Ford/4spd..................a very stock looking 51 Chevy Coupe with 427 Chevy......................55 Dodge Coronet with 392 Hemi...........that car looked like it had just come from the showroom floor................but it could really haul the mail.
So, yes I think a 4dr Maverick would be a neat sleeper with maybe a 428 Cobra Jet, or 406 FE, or the ultimate would be a 427 FE with dual fours, but a sleeper with a primer paint job just does't get it in my book..........IMHO

Junky looking or not a real "street'racer can spot a fast car out of a crowd. You have to have supporting equipment and you cant hide everything.

Do the V-8 swap, quiet exhaust, and sticky tires so you get the power to the ground. Then just have FUN.

My first car ever was an "Old Granny Jones..." 1974 4-door Maverick with the LDO and stock everything. Nice paint (green) white vinyl roof, plain black rims with hubcaps, single exhaust with a 302 that would burn Camaros a**es in the 1/4. Really wish my wild ways in those days had not brought that car to an early demise. Unfortunately, Oak trees are tougher than Mavericks... Loved that car and it's why I have a Maverick now and what brought me to the board.

Never been fond of primer, but that car gets with the program and looks pretty mild for 9.50's @ over 140mph. Not much wheel spin and no wheelie, I'd say that was a sleeper...........................but to qualify...........the strip and the street are two different animals...............IMHO
