    I would suggest searching for wheel spacer on here and reading previous threads on them.

    no, do it rights, change the drums and rear axle, or use it as an excuse to go disc up front, I have an axle here that I am willing to let go

    Wheel adapters overload the axle bearings by adding leverage of their thickness to the load. If you were to use a back spaced wheel with the same measurement to off-set the spacer then it might be alright but then the wheel takes the load.
    You are always better off to do it the right way.

    Personally I feel the same way about wheel adapters/spacers as I do shackles. Their both dangerous. Like PaulS stated, you're putting more stress where it wasn't designed to be.
