I just wanna start off saying im ford illiterate lol before u all think im stupid.. I wanna put a 4 speed in my 70 maverick bc i want to keeep my bench seat. Is it possible to do one cable operated insted of linkage?
Omg -_-.. Im sorry i wasnt clear and was trying to be quick on my phone with gloves on.. I know about the shifter part. I was asking about the clutch engagement. I know a decent bit about cars and stuff, just not about what interchanges with what. Im sorry or the confusion.
Cable clutches are usually a pull type fork (pivot is on the opposite side of the trans from the from the cable end of the fork). A 4-speed is a push type fork (pivot is in between the rod of the fork and the input). There may be a popular solution to this problem, I just have no experience with it. By the way, I had a toploader 4-speed and bench, it fits just fine. But I used the factory clutch linkage, not a cable.
Didnt think of that lol. Im so hyped about the car im not thinking straight.. Lol. Ive got slit to find so i can drive it..
It can be done with a Toploader 4 speed. Lots of Fords came with bench seats and 4 speeds. One sure way is to use the 64-65 Fairlane tailhousing and by the use of a Hurst shifter body with either a shift lever that's designed to clear a bench seat or one that has the bolted on lever and hunting down a lever that'll clear the seat. The Torino housing has the shifter mounted all the way forward on the tailhousing as opposed to the other two locations that are midway and all the way to the rear of the tail. Go look at www.4speedtoploaders.com, in his Id charts to see what I'm talking about.
Instead of a clutch cable, look into a hydraulic slave or hydraulic throw out bearing. Several kits out there. SPark
Yea i could also do that. Idk im just gonna put a c4 in for now bc theres no 4 speeds around me that are cheap lol
