Here are a couple of pics of my old “barn find Maverick” for anyone interested. Don’t laugh too much, it is my extreme budget build car. I have about $2000 into it now, including the price of the car. Engine is a spare 429 I had sitting around. It is pretty much a stock 1970 4V 429 out of a Lincoln, mild cam and intake. I just finished the headers which were for a 69 big block Camaro, which I reflanged for the Ford heads. I was really surprised at the fit and I can’t beat the price, they were given to me by a Chevy friend. I need to plumb the fuel system, wiring, etc. etc. and plan to paint next spring.

Impressive! And only $2000??? You must be way cheaper than I am even! I would have guessed that the front suspension and the original Cobra Jet valve covers would have cost more than that.

Dude the car looks pretty tuff!! You could get some spacers that are fairly cheap to push your back wheels and tires out so they fit in the wheel opening better! It looks good!

Hey, what part of houston are you in? I wouldn't mind seeing that car in person. Looks like a tight fit, but then aren't they all in our cars?

Yeah, I paid $875 for car with an extra 460 and stock Mustang II suspension. I sold the 460 for $300, engine and trans I already had. The biggest expenses so far are for the Moser axles in back, spool, boss scoop, front tires (used), Mustang II disk brake kit and steering rack, seats (used). I did all the suspension work myself. It will probably take another $2000 before I can run it down the track.

    Thanks
    Mark

post up some more pictures...I think you have a GREAT project going there, and am extremely jealous that you are that far along with that little money.

Do you have subframe connectors? That thing will fold up on you first time you launch if you don't.

I'll post some more pics later. I was fortunate to start with a car that was already set up to race. Previous owner had a crossmember to hook ladder bars to, subframe connectors, six point cage with some diagonals. Rear end narrowed with 2X3 frame rails welded in. He did a lot of work and welding on this car. Later I think I add in a forward hoop, dash bar, and tie into the front rails with a couple of tubes.

WOW!!! You really scored on that one...:thumbs2:

When you race, will you take it to Baytown, Angleton, Sealy, or possibly Santa Fe 1/4 is open again.

I would like to bring mine along if I have the motor in. I can shoot some vids of both cars...

By the looks of the trees in this pic...I would guess you are either on the south or east side of Houston and shouldn't be too far from me. I am off tomorrow, if you will be around, and aren't too far of a drive, I would love to come and take a look....

For those not around here, Houston is BIG. North side has pine trees, NW and W side has few trees if any and those are scrubby mesquite, S and E sides are closer to the bayous, and have Louisiana type trees, pecan, cypress, less pine, more oak. Closer you get to the coast, the more of this pattern gets stronger until you get to the saltgrass areas where there are very few trees.

So, based on the trees in this picture, I would guess he is near me in Angleton, or at least on the South or Southeast side of town...

I am kinda getting excited to see if I am correct...kinda like detective work!:tiphat:
