Met a guy today who owns a parts yard, and told him I wanted a MII front end. He said "Why? I have a friend who paid $100 for a kit that lets him move the shock towers further out and he dropped a 460 big block in there."

Sounds fishy...I don't see where the shock towers (and fenders, etc.) would move to. Plus, if it was this easy, and this CHEAP, we would have all done it.

Has anyone heard of this, or anything like this?

I could see putting mustang shock towers on the Maverick to get more needed clearance......for $100 bucks

Actually it has been done. Dyno Dons Maverick had the shock towers moved out. Then again, he probably had the help of engineers. Never seen a kit though.

I figured it was BS, but just wanted to throw that out there, just in case.

I have seen the 69-70 Mustang subframe, ENTIRE subframe put under a Mav to fit a 460.
It pushes the front tires out a bit.
If I had to guess, I would say that is how the early racers did it.

What is a good price for an entire MII front end for the conversion...This salvage yard said he has sold all of his, but can get me one overnight for $300. I know another yard that has 2 sets of all the suspension, but not the crossmember frame part for $75 each set. So, the $300 sounded a little steep.

For that kind of price, I will hold out for the $2500 all new rack and pinion coilover kit...since I would be well over $1000 by the time I cut the old stuff out, buy all new tie-rods and bushings, etc. and install the $300 MII suspension...plus I would have a better suspension all around, and all new!

I got my M2..crossmember forward (including all a-arms) for $100 from a guy that was going to build a street rod but had health problems.

I've seen them listed in the paper for $100 before as well. Sometimes you can get the whole car (pinto, bobcat, mustang) for the same price....just have to keep your eyes open.

Thanks. I thought $300 was kinda steep. I only paid $600 for my entire car, so can't justify paying half that for just some chunks off the front of another car.

Which item in that picture is the "crossmember"? Or is it shown.

Actually, those prices are about half what I have been looking at...I have been seeing more around 2300-2500.

For $1500, I will definitely buy a new setup, like that one shown. Maybe sooner than I thought...

Scoop, you got plans on a bigger engine? Sounds fun. :yup: What size?
Didn't you post a while back that you were painting? Did you decide to push it back some? I was looking foreward to the pics- Although pics of your newly installed front suspension would do nicely. :D

That doesn't mean a 69 -70 Stang body will fit on top of my subframe tho... does it? :hmmm: Our front tires are too close together?? I have seen some really cool modified fiberglass mustang bodies (for about a million dollars) and keep wondering if anybody tried it. I guess those cars are usually longer than ours...?

I got plans to do alot! I wanted to paint and carpet the interior, but got side tracked with rear suspension (finished complete rear spring/shackle/bushing replacement yesterday).

I have access to a free 390ci motor, and was thinking of dropping in but need more space to do it. Thought I could bore it out and get something like 400 cubes, might move me around a little better.

Figured I would slowly rebuild the motor while swapping out the front suspension...but I really need to do some body work first. I don't know, so much to do, so many choices, so little money...I wish I could quit work and just rebuild this thing all day long. Anyone want to pay my bills while I do this....

    THAT IS A GREAT IDEA!!!

We can all take one year off while the forum members rotate and help fund the one guy's year off. Let's start with me...I will quit my job, you guys all pay me like $10 each per month to cover my bills, then next year, someone else quits and I start paying the $10 to him! After about 250 years, we have all had our chance to take our year off, and all our cars are DONE!
