BBBWWWAAAHHH!Help!,does anyone know or has anyone put a 5.0 in with the stock tranny?can we use the old balancer & flexplate or do we have to re balance the whole thing or get a newer tranny?the C-4 bell housing is too small for the 5.0 flex plate that came w/the motor.
depending on year of 302 its either a 28 oz or 50 oz and you have to use the rite balancer and flywheel for that year motor so even if it bolts on dont use the wrong one it will wipe the bearings out of the lower in
it's a 92 from a stang,so I can hit up Ford or somewher and get one for my C-4,so I can finally drive it!?we drove it from our house to the store n back 1 time after i bought it and dad said the pencil snapped......I didnt know what a drag that was gonna be!
x2. Ha! A few years back, I reversed what you're doing... I wanted to hook a '91 AOD to a '74 302. Bought a 164 tooth 28 oz. flexplate (if I remember correctly) and a TV cable with adapter linkage for the carb. Never installed it, though. Still have all the stuff in boxes. Oh, well. Eric
AFAIK the front ballancer must match the crankshaft which is what dictates whether the engine needs 28oz or 50oz... Ford went to the 50oz setup in '81 and then to the one piece rear seal in '82, so all engines that have the one piece rear seal are 50oz imbalance... http://www.rowand.net/Shop/Tech/FordFlywheeslAndFlexplates.htm
ok,this is pops(helping the lad)The comet, originally had the 302 in it stock.dip stick in timing cover, frt sump pan blah blah and youre a di.....The 5.0 is from a 92 mustang, mass airflo motor.the balancer indicates its a 50 oz from its appearence.so my guts telling me 50 oz/157 tooth flex pl8. Now,were also slapping the carb back on the 5.0 an I was wondering if the dist gear needs to be of a different material.the one off the 5.0 wont fit the shaft of the dura spark dist.does it need to be swapped.BTW,you cats rock, your help is INVALUABLE!
The steel cam gear will eat the iron gear on the Duraspark dist... Doesn't happen immediately but will pretty much toast after 10K mi or so...
Bronze or steel distributor gear will work with the roller cam gear. Mail orders like Summit Racing or Jegs will have them if anyplace near you does not. Eric
