I am in the process of swapping out my 200cid I6 in my 1970 maverick for an 89 5.0L, EFI with auto trans.

Can I use the 89 c6 tranny or should I reuse the original transmission?
Worried that the original one made for a six cylinder won't hold up to the higher torque and hp from the 5.0L.

    thanks.

There's an entire article on this in the tech section, and there's a search function as well.

I doubt the 89 transmission is a C-6, it's more likely an AOD or AODE. The six banger C-4 can be rebuilt to handle the extra load. And you won't have the added problems of shortening the driveshaft and dealing with the transmission crossmember and mount (that's going to be different from the C-4) The front yoke will be different from the C-4 too. Then there's the shifter linkage.
