How do you know if a Comet was originally a GT? Also did the GT's originally come with 4bbls or 2 barrel carb?
GT identification Unfortunately, unlike the Maverick Grabber cousin, a Comet GT is not identified by the VIN. A Marti report http://www.martiauto.com/ will identify a car as a GT. Also, the Ford 999 report will identify some sort of appearance group that could indicate a GT. If you have detailed pics of an original car, it's not to hard to identify a car as a GT, but it's also easy to clone a GT from a standard Comet. Send pics, I can try and help. The 302 was 2 barrel except for a 1968 option with 4V and small chamber heads. The 4V didnt return until the Fox platform. The Boss motors are obviously 4V but we didnt get those in our gas misers.
I sold that car 3 years ago and have regreted it everyday since, thats why im looking for another one.
As Seth stated, a Marti report will tell you if it is a GT since it was an option and not a separate vin designation. The report on my '72 lists it as GT Group in the option list. Look for bucket seats or holes for bucket seats. Most regular Comets came with a bench. Jim
Ouch! Sorry to hear that. Good luck with the search. There doesn't seem to be many available at the moment. Seth
