    Hey guys,

I am looking to replace my leaf springs in my 72 Maverick. The origional leafs have a total of 3 leafs per side. I found a site that has a set for a Ford maverick at $109 a side but they have 4 leafs. Is this going to make the rear end to stiff (haha)? I know it comes down to weight, and thats why i am asking, because I dont know what the origional 72 factory weight specs were...

    http://www.generalspringkc.com/Leaf_Springs_Ford_Maverick_s/1901.htm

Here is the link for the new leaf springs I was talking about. 807lbs spring capacity.

    Thanks for the help guys,
    Clay

    Clay,
I bought springs from them and just installed them two weeks ago.

I too was concerned that the springs would be too stiff. So far they have been great. I wish i would have done it years ago. It raised the rear end up about three inches and made the stance much better. I also notice an improvement in the handling.

It took me about five hours to do the install. Mostly trying to losen up bolts that had not been touched in 40 years. Otherwise, it was not difficult.

I put my 4-leafs on about 20 years ago. After that I didn't need traction bars anymore.

I have those springs, they are to stiff for me. Everyone has a different opinion as to what is stiff, what isn't. My plan is to remove the bottom leaf this season; I been putting it off for 2 yrs... going to get it done this yr.
If I had known what I know now .... I wud have taken the leaf out B4 I installed them. As long as ur on smooth road ... fine.... washboard road ... diffierent story.
I guess if ur lookin to keep axle hop to a minimum this is the ticket .... probably won't need traction bars.

I added a leaf to my sagging original 3-leafs and liked the result. Four new leafs might have been too stiff for me.

I have 4-leafs from JC Whitney, and they didn't lift the rear more than 1/2". I don't find them too stiff. But I also don't like my car to swim when I make turns. I want all four corners stiffer.

It didn't stiffen mine up enough to prevent the tires from getting eaten by the fender lips on hard launches...

The number of leafs has nothing to do with spring rate. Some 3 leaf springs have a higher spring rate than some 4 leaf springs. My new 4-leaf springs from Laurel Mountain Mustang gave me 2" needed lift and didn't hurt the ride that much. My old 3-leaf springs rode like a boat.
